The community safety education act was introduced in Canada in 1974 to bring in certain changes in the way the community police carried out their duty. Under this act, people living in communities are informed about the risks that they face in their day to day living and are given the right to decide how to avoid or deal with these risks. These risks are broadly divided into three categories: health, safety and welfare of the individual and his or her family; and protection of the environment, wildlife and persons. All these three have to be kept in mind while designing community safety plans and also while dealing with enforcement of the same. This is because the environment and wildlife are highly vulnerable to any attack by human beings and other pests and damage by fire, flooding, earthquake and other such disasters.

Health is the first and foremost aspect of community safety that has to be taken care of: Health problems are very common and can lead to a lot of loss, if proper precautions are not taken at the right time. For instance, there is the threat posed by contaminated water from a broken pipeline or faucet. While the water might seem drinkable, it might in fact be contaminated and hence it should not be used for cooking, washing, drinking and other ordinary purposes. Therefore, the first requirement under what is the purpose of the community safety education act is for the water supply to be tested regularly.

A similar thing can be said about the other dangers mentioned above: Wildlife endangerment can be due to poaching, mining, habitat loss and many more such reasons. Community safety therefore requires that measures be taken to protect the flora and fauna of the area. One can do this by creating an environmental management plan, which will specify the steps that have to be taken to ensure the survival and proliferation of the flora and fauna in the area. Community safety thus sees to it that the interests of nature are protected and don’t get endangered in the process of fulfilling the needs of human beings.

Another point that is important to be considered under: what is the purpose of the community safety education act is the educational aspects. Community safety is a process whereby you as a citizen have to be aware of the hazards and dangers in the environment and keep yourself updated with the latest happenings in the world so that you can take preventive measures in time. This will not only help you in avoiding any kind of accidents, but will also ensure that you live a healthy and peaceful life.

The implementation of the community safety education act has many benefits: First, it will make you responsible for your actions. You cannot just take for granted the rights given to you by the community because if you fail to act responsibly then you will be held responsible for the consequences. It should be made compulsory for every individual in the community to undergo this kind of education program at least once in a lifetime so that we can fully protect our environment and live a healthy life. Secondly, this act will also give a good direction to the parents of children below the age of 14 years so that they can raise their children in a responsible manner.

They must also be educated so that they can guide their children in the right direction and avoid them from being ignorant and follow bad examples.

One aspect that is considered very negligible is the issue of discrimination or violence towards any particular community or individual. It has been observed that even after hearing about the community safety programs many people do not practice what is being taught to them. If this continues to be the case then we will have a serious problem on our hands. We can see that what is the purpose of the community safety education act is to make people aware of the things that can be done when there is a situation of emergency. All of us must work hand in hand with each other to save our surroundings and keep the nation safe from all kinds of threats and danger.
